Cultural Activities

The Consulate is extremely active in the promotion of Italy. It promotes and sponsors various traditional and cultural events and through interviews on local radios and television brings Italy to Merseyside.

"Manualità creativa": a celebration of Italian food, wine and crafts

The Pesaro-Urbino’s exhibition took place in Liverpool on 31st October and 1st November in the Gibberd Room at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral – Christ the King.

The Hon. Italian Consulate in Liverpool and the Italian Chamber of Commerce on behalf of Confartigianato of Pesaro-Urbino organized the two-day event. The aim was to offer visitors the opportunity to discover what Pesaro-Urbino, a province in the Marche region of Italy, could offer to potential customers.

The numerous exhibitors presented a wide range of fine products, ranging from wines, olive oil, pasta, traditional cakes and truffles products to terracotta cribs and ornamental products, leather and wooden objects along with items designed and produced following the most modern ceramic technique.

The combination of the exhibition with the Italian Concert on the 1st November performed by "Choir San Carlo" of Pesaro and "Era o Sia Ensemble" has contributed to the great turn up of visitors.

Tourism

We provide general information regarding Italy and the Merseyside area.

In October 1998, the Wirral and the Province of Latina signed a twinning agreement by which both local authorities committed themselves to doing everything in their power to promote cultural, educational, art and tourism exchange and any other type of cooperation which could help shape the European society of tomorrow.

Consular Register (A.I.R.E.)

Italian citizens who leave their country for a period exceeding twelve months are expected to inform the local Consulate within 90 days of their arrival by presenting the appropriate application form (law no. 470/88).

The are two ways of registring:

green bullet in person, with a valid Italian document (ID card or passport) and any other proof of residence (utilities bills or council tax)
green bullet by post, making sure to you fill in the appropriate application form and send it with a fotocopy of your ID card, passport and any other proof of residence;

This step will lead to two different, very important administrative situations:

green bullet registration in the Consular Register;
green bullet registration in the A.I.R.E. of the Comune of where you last lived in Italy.

The registration in the Consular Register is the equivalent of a declaration of residency and enables easier access to consular services.

The completion of the A.I.R.E. registration process means that the new residence will become legally acknowledged in all circumstances.

In order to insure that the register fully satisfies its purposes as a modern administration tool, it is necessary that the computer register which supports it be extremely up-dated. Therefore, we ask all registered citizens to communicate any change in address and eventually any births, deaths or change in marital status as soon as possible.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE REGISTERED IN THE A.I.R.E.?

In terms of administration, each Italian Comune up-dates two main registers: The Register of the Resident Population (l'Anagrafe della populazione residente - A.P.R.) and the Register of Italian Citizens Living Abroad (l'Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all'Estero - A.I.R.E.). When a citizen moves to another country he/she must, according to the law, inform the local Consulate, which forwards the application to the Comune, which will then transfer the family unit from the A.P.R. to the A.I.R.E. The process is very similar to what happens when you move from one town to another in Italy.

WHAT ABOUT THE ELECTORAL ROLL?

According to the recent change to the Constitution, a citizen who lives abroad will be registered in the electoral rolls of the appointed foreign constituency in order to elect the ministers and senators that represent the Italians abroad and will be able to vote by post. The citizen will also be able to vote abroad in the European elections and in the COMITES elections. Furthermore, some discount may be given on flights to Italy taken for the sole purpose of participating in local government elections.

OTHER ASPECTS RELATING TO THE A.I.R.E. REGISTRATION

A number of national and regional laws allow Italian citizens living abroad to make use of various privileges. One example is the definition of "first home" and the advantages it has in terms of tax and concessions. In fact, similarly to those who, living in Italy, are allowed tax deductions on the purchase and the I.C.I rates of their first home, the main house in Italy of a citizen living abroad will also be considered a "first home" as long as it is not rented out.
