Discount card – IT.Card
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched an initiative, called “It.card”, for Italian nationals residing abroad, the aim of which is to encourage them to travel to Italy.
Italian nationals whose names appear on the electoral lists are entitled to a discount card offering a number of real benefits in terms of services provided or products purchased in Italy, e.g. discounts on public transport fares, on some private airlines and sea ferries tickets, on some museum and theatre entrance fees, on some hotel and agritourism farm tarriffs, on thermal spa breaks and on tickets for a number of tourism-oriented events and festivals.

Holders of the above card (and their family members who live with them at the same address) will be entitled to discounts off normal prices varying from 10 to 50%. Here is a list of the companies partecipating in the initiative:
- Ferrovie dello Stato (Italian Railways);
- shipping companies (Tirrenia, Moby Lines, MSC, ecc..)
- Federalberghi (including more than 1,000 establishments from 3 to 5 stars) ;
- Federazione del turismo Equestre – Federation of equestrian tourism (600 facilities providing accommodation);
- Touring Club;
- AIG (Youth Hostels);
- Hertz Car Rental;
- L’Espresso Publishing Group;
- Autogrill Fini;
- Tourist villages;
- A number of theatres in Rome, Florence, Milan and Naples;
- Citysightseeing coaches (red tourist coaches);
- Volagratis- low-cost airlines;
- Shop on Line (e-commerce sites).

Italian nationals registered at the consulate may apply for an It.card by post (please complete this form). The card will be sent to them upon their request and only after the Consulate has ascertained their actual AIRE registration. The card will be finalised with the name of the holder and the expiry date (which will be 31/12/2012).
The It.card shall be valid only if accompanied by a valid Italian ID document (ID card or passport).
Under no circumstance shall the Ministry of Foreign Affairs be held responsible for any inconvenience deriving from use of the card.
